Hughes Collaboration worked with Regis University’s Institute on the Common Good to help Colorado’s citizens identify one or more measure to place on the state’s 2016 ballot. Justin facilitated a series of special interest stakeholder breakout groups throughout the state, and provided meeting summaries and analysis for each meeting.
Justin worked as assistant facilitator with the Center for Collaborative Policy to support the Delta Protection Commission and communities in the Sacramento River Delta as they sought to increase their civic vitality and preserve the values and character of their historic towns. He interviewed key stakeholders throughout the region. Justin also drafted documents and participated in project planning meetings with the Delta Protection Commission.
The Huerfano County Community Forum was established in 2011 with these 5 goals:
1. To open lines of communication and build working relationships between residents/citizens of the county and representatives of SWEPI LP – “Shell”
2. To serve as a forum for community members and Shell representatives to ask questions, raise concerns, identify discussion topics and share scientific/technical information about the community and about Shell’s natural gas exploration
3. To serve as a forum for the community members to offer recommendations to Shell and for Shell’s representatives to report back to the community about whether and how Shell staff used their recommendations
4. To serve as a forum that draws in the needs, concerns, opinions and perspectives of the wider community and as a conduit for information from the forum’s participants to the larger community
5. To serve as one possible forum for new ideas about county policy and regulation that the Planning and Zoning Commission or County Commissioners may consider
Justin managed this multi-phased comunity outreach and engagement project in Lafayette, California. He worked with Mesh Design Build Studio and a private homeowner interested in fostering the principles of collaboration with their soon-to-be neighbors. Justin created and implemented a questionnaire for concerned neighbors; captured neighbors’ concerns and questions in a succinct and supportive manner; and developed and delivered a project summary to Mesh Design Build Studio and the homeowner.
Justin collaborated with Community Partners to facilitate 10 public meetings throughout Los Angeles County to address the passage of Proposition 64. He facilitated the following topics: Youth access and exposure; equity and economic development; taxation and revenue; personal cultivation; the location of cannabis business. Justin led participants with differing points of view in productive dialogue, and worked directly with staff from the Los Angeles County Office of Cannabis Management to address questions and concerns from the community.
