Energize Denver Task Force 

 

The Energize Denver Task Force produced a consensus recommendation to the Denver City Council for an ordinance that will guide energy efficiency improvements in existing commercial/office and multi-family buildings.  The ordinance is a centerpiece of Denver's Climate Action Plan.

 

Hells Canyon Dam Relicensing

 

Mike co-facilitated the deliberations of the Settlement Working Group as it developed new license articles to submit to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.  The Idaho Power Company, Federal agencies including NOAA Fisheries, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management, the States of Oregon and Idaho, five tribal governments, agricultural/industrial/municipal water users, recreation and environmental advocacy groups and local governments produced an agreement for the interim operations of three dams.  They delved deeply into aquatic, terrestrial, cultural, recreational, economic and long-term operational issues, giving Idaho Power valuable stakeholder perspectives and helping the company develop its relicensing application.

 

Nuclear Power Joint Fact Finding

Mike and a team led an exploration of safety, security, waste management and economic issues for a stakeholder group that includes national environmental organizations, climate change policy advocates and the nuclear power industry. The group worked through long-standing differences to produce a consensus report aimed at helping policy makers move beyond data conflicts and address climate policy choices. The report has received significant attention in the ongoing policy debate about the role of nuclear power in reducing carbon emissions from enerfy production in the U.S.
