National Forest Planning Rule Federal Advisory Committee

Federal Advisory Committee – U.S. Forest Service – Forest Planning Rule Implementation (2012-ongoing)

Mike Hughes is helping a 21-member committee reach consensus on the most effective ways to implement the new federal planning rule and update the plans for every national forest.  The recently adopted rule is already the subject of litigation.  The committee (which includes tribal representation) is working to resolve long-standing conflicts over wilderness designations; cultural, social and economic considerations in forest plans; ecological restoration; and community engagement in the context of the rule’s provisions and requirements.
